    Make it neutral

Using neutral tones is a foolproof way of creating a visually cohesive room. You can decorate with a mixture of complementing whites, greys and taupes.

A bedroom is a place of rest and neutral shades create the perfect serene ambience for that. Right from the wall paint to the bedspread, keep it in the neutral family.

  1. Incorporate natural elements

Just decorating with neutral tones can make your room appear dull. To add some dimension to this space, incorporate natural components. Natural textiles such as bamboo shades, suede cushions, jute mats and so on will instantly make it cosy.

  1. Focus on earthy tones

If neutral tones are too boring for your taste and you’re not particularly interested in going the gaudy route, then an earthy palette is the perfect in-between for you.  You should decorate your room with soft browns, forest greens, tans, burnt sienna, umber and so on.

  1. Soft pastels

Soft pastels have always been a frontrunner when it comes with pleasing aesthetics. If you’re trying to achieve a youthful yet mature look, go for soft pastels. Robin egg blue, baby pink, lavender, cream, ivory and so on are some fantastic options. Pastels induce a calming and relaxing feeling.

  1. Get a canopy bed

Fulfil your childhood dream of living in a treehouse by getting your very own canopy. It’s not possible to camp out every night, but a canopy bed will make you feel like you’re snuggled up on a glamping retreat. Add soft, sheer drapes to further tip the cosy scales in your favour.

  1. Minimise

Having too many things in your room can make the ambience overwhelming. Instead of cramming it with too many objects, consider minimising. Declutter and rearrange to create some free space around your bed. You know what they say, clear space leads to a clear mind.

  1. Get a headboard

A luxurious tufted headboard along with an assortment of cushions adds flair to a room. Apart from being elegant, it perfectly completes the cosy look. Head over to Headboards Interiors for an extensive collection of designer and luxury upholstered headboards.

  1. Include soft textures

For the ultimate cosy bedroom, think soft textures. Imagine this, a plush bed with silk sheets, a fluffy comforter and cloud-like pillows, sounds heavenly, right? You can further up the ante by furnishing your floors with furry rugs and carpets.

  1. Go rustic

Overly contemporary decor can feel a little uninspiring. To uplift your home decor, take the rustic route. From refurbished furniture to reclaimed woods, a rustic room feels homely. You can even build a reclaimed wood accent wall or swap your bed frame for a floor bed.

  1. Embrace warm tones

What’s cosier than an autumn evening? Bring this season into your bedroom with warm autumnal tones. Orange, mustard and red make up a great combination. You can also get plaid throws and textured cushions.

  1. Warm it up

There’s nothing like a night in with a warm cup of tea, a favourite TV show and a fire. You can make your bedroom a blissful corner with a fireplace.

However, it’s not always feasible to get a fireplace installed. Don’t worry, there are plenty of alternatives available. You can get a compact fireplace or a faux fireplace with an inbuilt heater.

  1. Symmetrical prints

Incorporating prints is a tricky business. For the right balance, consider delicate and symmetrical prints. Adding printed wallpaper, drapes and upholstery are excellent ways to add character to a room. Repeating patterns also helps in tying-in everything together.

  1. Layer, layer, layer

Instead of keeping it two-dimensional, add some depth to your bedroom with layers. Don’t shy away from layering all different kinds of textures and juxtaposing them with different elements. For instance, placing a furry throw over a metal chair will soften its appearance.

  1. Keep it monochromatic

Working with monochromatic decor is playing it safe, but it works every time. You can take it up a notch by committing to a single colour for your bedroom decor. With different shades of the same colour, you can add serenity while keeping it chic.

  1. Go green

For a refreshing and tranquil space, place potted and hanging plants in your bedroom. Having indoor plants has proven to boost mood, instil positivity and improve productivity. If it’s impossible for you to keep plants alive, get easy to maintain succulents, aloe vera and peace lilies.

  1. Well-equipped nightstand

Apart from the usual furnishing, equip your nightstand with your basics. From sleeping mask and books to tea and lip balm, whatever helps you unwind.

  1. Exposed beams and walls

Opt for exposed beams and brick walls instead of perfectly finished interiors. These elements give a homely and inviting feeling.

  1. Furnish with antiques

Visit flea markets and secondhand shops to find antique pieces for your room. One-of-a-kind decor pieces and furniture make a place appear lived in and welcoming. This is a convenient way to add a charming touch without spending too much.

  1. Create a nook

If you have a spacious room, building a nook is a great idea. You can designate a cosy corner or a windowsill, where you can sit and enjoy a warm cuppa or an engrossing book. All you need is cushy seating, soft cushions and maybe a blanket or two.

  1. Hang a swing

Hanging up a swing is a luxurious addition you shouldn’t deny yourself. It charming, fun and quite affordable. Whether you need a place to relax after work or need a new reading spot, a swing offers all that and more.
