Teenagers are so difficult to handle! They need instant gratification and they need it all the time. This is an aspect of their behavior that you must keep in mind when you are designing their bedrooms. It can be elegant, chic, trendy, but if it is not to their liking then you probably have another massive tantrum on your hand!
The tantrum is more or less justified because they have to spend a sizeable portion of their lives in that bedroom. So you need to make sure that you get it right the first time around! So get your hands on the best tools like cordless drills, fill your mind with the perfect ideas, and get started on your teenager’s perfect bedroom!
Swings and Hanging Chairs
Teenagers love anything that is creative and a little bit different from the usual. This includes hanging chairs. They would find few things as appealing and as satisfying as a cozy little chair to curl up in and swing around. I remember particularly when I was a teenager I loved the rocking and swinging motion of a swing and it would put me right to sleep every single time!
We’re quite sure that if you put forth this idea to your teen, they will picture themselves perched up on the chair, having some alone time while reading a book or watching their favorite show. It is quite the aesthetic!
A particularly great place to hang these chairs and swings is on the balcony, if your kid’s room has one. It works better than a chair and table as well!
Paint According to their Moods
The colors of the room matter above most other things. The primary color of the room sets the tone of how the rest of it is going to be and the secondary color enhances the mood. You need to choose colors based on your child’s temperament so that they do not complain about it later!
You must always consult your teen on what their preferences should be. But if you are planning to surprise them or if they have left the decision solely on you, you must keep their tempers in mind!
For example, if you child loves an artistic flair and has a soft personality, you could go with pastel colors. For a sharp child with clear thoughts you can go with darker colors and contrasts. The list goes on!
Cork Boards
Teenagers nowadays have so many ideas! And they love jotting them down. I’m sure all of us know of at least one teenager who hoards notebooks and journals to write down ideas in them!
A cork board will be the perfect place for them to stick these ideas on. They can make their to-do lists, hang their weekly schedules, even put up a chalkboard for temporary brainstorming.
Other than that, cork boards can be used to pin up articles and other interesting bits from books and magazines which teenagers can use later for assignments or inspiration.
Teenage girls love decorating their corkboards with fairy lights too. So you can do that for them and surprise them with the perfect gift for their bedroom!
Settee by the Foot of the Bed
Teenagers need lots of space to loll around in their rooms and invite friends over and have a generally great time. I know most of them settle in on the floor but it is always great to have a nice place to actually sit on as well.
The settee at the edge of the bed can also act as an extension of the bed itself. So in a way it is like having extra space on the bed for everyone to sit on and have a great time.
In fact, it is a generally great idea to add a lot of seating options to the room. You can throw in a couple of bean bags on the side, maybe a stool or chair as well? The more places you have to sit on, the better experience your kid is going to have with friends.
Wall Designs
Plain walls are trendy lately but most teenagers prefer a fun, colorful, decked up wall. I remember my niece once had one of her walls painted entirely by an artistic friend of hers. She had made a colorful and elaborate doodle and it looked absolutely breathtaking.
If you don’t know an artist who is willing to do this job, you really don’t have to worry! There are stencils and paints readily available in the market for DIY projects. You can do an elaborate doodle of your own, create a block pattern, or stencil in a mandala or anything of the sort.
You can also have an excellent bonding experience with your teenager by having him or her help you out with the whole thing. It is going to make things faster and the bond grow stronger.
Storage Spaces
Everyone who has a teenage child knows a teenager’s obsession with stuff. Teenagers have so many things that it is almost impossible to keep track of it all. Make sure that your kid is taking responsibility of his or her own things.
After that, make sure that you have made more than enough space for them to keep all their stuff in. You will need to install shelves and cabinets and drawers. I particularly like the kinds of beds that have drawers underneath them.
If your teen is organized, they can put everything in place all by themselves. If not, you will have to help them out with it! But it shouldn’t be a problem if you have enough space.

Like I said before, teenagers love everything that differs from the norm. Give them for example a round bed or a metal frame bed and most of them will be ecstatic!
In fact, the bed doesn’t have to be entirely round either. You can have it custom made in any shape you want! Install some drawers underneath and your kid is good to go!
