With the pandemic currently affecting how we live, several protocols have been well-noted as today’s “new normal.” Deciding to unwind and chill at your favorite swimming pools is deemed impossible nowadays since social distancing protocols are in place.
Thus, most of the pools are temporarily closed, and some are only available for private functions.
However, this should not stop you from achieving your most-deserved break since you can buy and install your above-ground pool!
You might ask, “how about an in-ground pool to achieve the pool feels?” It is possible, yet it is incredibly expensive.
According to HomeAdvisor.com, the go-to home improvement website, the total cost for an in-ground pool is around $36,000 to $66,000.
The above-ground pool, on the other hand, can be purchased as low as $750! You see, there is indeed a significant difference between the two when it comes to cost.
The above-ground pool may be cost-effective, but installing it may be challenging, especially if you are doing it alone.
Aside from that, the hidden costs can be quite shocking as you fail to consider the chemicals, the cleaner, the electric and water bills, repairs, decking, and the maintenance.
It can be quite a lot to take in, but these, unfortunately, come with the package. One of the vital tasks you should do is to declare this to your insurance agent.
It may cost your insurance rates to rise, yet it does have an advantage during unforeseen events.
If you are still uncertain about making your above-ground pool happen like what you have imagined, here are a few steps to help you get this started in no time.
1) Plan on the swimming pool’s best location.
First things first, you have to check with your municipality if there are any existing protocols regarding setting up swimming pools in your place.
Some municipalities require a permit before going ahead with the plan. It is best to do this ahead of time to save time, money, and effort.
Aside from this, the safest location would be away from trees and power lines. The pool should not be too far from your house as you would surely need an outlet to power up your swimming pool’s pump.
You can even use swimming pool design software to create a plan on the computer for better visualizing how the whole project will fit in your space.
2) Purchase the swimming pool.
There is no problem if you choose to do this step first; however, it is best if you already have a plan in mind regarding its location, the deck situation, the design, the accessories like pool blankets, and whatever you think would be best to go with your pool.
The best place to check above-ground pools would be at home improvement stores such as Home Depot, Lowes, and some local pool supply stores.
3) Begin preparing the desired location.
Get rid of the rocks or sticks on the desired location of the swimming pool. The surface should ideally be flat to avoid issues once the pool is in place.
Moreover, avoid committing the common mistake of using sand to level the base. The sand will most likely shift, yet it can serve well as a buffer of the pool’s base and the soil.
4) Set up the electricity.
You must turn off the breaker before you start and bury the cords at least two feet deep to avoid possible accidents.
However, it is best to contact and ask for help from a licensed professional electrician to ensure safety as this task comes with many risks.
Sure, some people may handle and manage this, but it is always best to choose the safest option — to hire an electrician.
5) Assemble the swimming pool.
It may sound like an easy thing to do as you have the manual and parts that you need to put together, but you may want to consider hiring a professional to do this for you as well.
However, if you are determined to make this work on your own, then the best advice you can rely on is this: read the instructions carefully, follow it, and do not hesitate to ask for help whenever needed.
6) Install the needed filter.
To successfully do this, you have to connect the pool pump to your filter. There are several filter options that you can choose from: sand filter, cartridge filter, or a diatomaceous earth filter.
The filter’s primary responsibility is to help remove bacteria, and other waste found from the water, while the chlorine does its wonders of killing the pool’s bacteria.
7) Fill up the swimming pool with water.
Get your hose, turn on your filter, and make sure you’ve got the right amount of chlorine on your pool. Filling up your pool with water could take a few hours, but you can finally look forward and get everyone in the family excited for a much-need fun and well-deserved break!
