1. Paint the Front Door

Fancy Front Door

Did you know that something as simple as painting the front door can increase the value of your house by $6,000?

A Paint Color Analysis conducted in 2018 by Zillow reached this conclusion after reviewing 135,000 photos of houses that were sold.

It was revealed that the front doors painted with a dark color, preferable black, were at the top of the list. This is one of the best DIY tips under $100 that will benefit you in the long run.

A bucket of paint costs between $15 and $30. Add in the price of varnish that costs around $18, and you have a total price of $48 (give and take). You won’t be even using the full bucket, as well as the varnish. Choose dark colors such as black, navy blue, or brown to make your house stand out from the rest.

2. Add Porch Curtains

Furnished Porch

Do you have a porch swing? Do you like to sit outside in the afternoon and enjoy some private time? Alas, this is impossible because everyone walking on the street can see you.

Why not install porch curtains to address this issue? Curtains give the house a warm and welcoming vibe, so it’s best to use them outside too.

A pair of sheer curtains cost just $8, and you can buy the fancy, blackout ones for just $18. Installing them on both sides of the house will still cost you only $52.

3. Place a Cheerful Doormat

Front Door Entrance Welcome Mat

Replace your mat with one that says a cheerful greeting. You can get such mats for just $20. Even if you are late opening the door, your guests will be busy discussing how amazing this mat is… just something to think about.

4. Install a Small Front Door Mailbox

Small Mailbox

You can get a fancy wall-mounted mailbox in just $30. If you are in the mood for some DIY, then get a simple one that costs $9 and then decorate it whatever way you want. You can paint it, add some abstract art on top, or write a quote. Installing it will require a few nails, a hammer, and 30 minutes of your time.

5. Fancy Up Your Mailbox

Mailbox

What about your mailbox on the curbside, you ask? Well, a fancy one such as shown above in the picture will cost you around $70. You can replace the flowers with figurine or another ornament. People like to go really fancy with curbside mailboxes, so let your inner creativity come out and play.

6. Hang a Wreath on the Front Door

Front Door Wreath

Perhaps one of the cheapest ways to improve the curb appeal of your house is using a wreath to add a little charm to your home’s exterior. A fancy wreath costs around $14. We are talking about the artificial one, which you can hang on your front door all year long.

7. Upgrade Your House Numbers

Numbers

Faded house numbers can be dangerous for you. Often, ambulances find it difficult to locate a house because the numbers are painted on the curb.

Here’s what we suggest: why don’t you get number plates that can be hanged on the wall? Make sure they are installed under the light fixtures so they are visible. You can get such house number plates as shown in the picture above for $60.

8. Install and Decorate the Porch Swing

Fancy Porch Swing

Did you know that you can buy a good wooden porch spring in just $30? Granted, it will be quite simple, but there are plenty of things in your house that you can use to decorate it, like the removable cushions seat of your old couch, pillows from your bedroom, or a throw blanket and 2 fairy lights.

For just $50, you can buy a classic porch swing with fancy woodwork. Hang a few flower pots from above, and the look will be complete. Use light colors for the porch swing’s décor, so that you can blend it with the curtains.

Are you excited to know about some more DIY ways to improve the curb appeal of your house? In the first part of this article we focused on the curb appeal, as well as some external features of the house. While we have a few more left to discuss with you, the rest of our focus will be on landscaping.

ideas to improve exterior

Many people dream about having a beautiful garden, lush with roses. A tire swing hanging from a tree that paints a quaint picture, a gnome standing at attention in the lawn and a floral pathway leading to the front door… do these ideas sound good to you?

Sadly, with such green ideas comes the responsibility of maintenance, which can be really taxing. Weeding, changing soil and watering are just some of the things that you need to take care of.

What if we told you that you could have this floral beauty without worrying about maintenance? A great way to take your home’s cub appeal to the next level is to follow a theme.

Since we are focusing on landscaping, we have decided to go with flora and fauna.

Following are eight more DIY tips under $100 that will help you improve the curb appeal of your house:

9. Install a Fancy Door Knob

Door Ornament

In our last blog, we mentioned that something as simple as paint color can completely change the exterior of your house. To give your front door a complete makeover, why not change the door knob too. Whether you prefer a handle or a knob, go for a fancy one. A flowery design goes well with every door, which you can get for $7.

10. Install a Door Knocker

Door Ornament

For the door knocker, you need to come up with something unique that is not overkill. Owning to our theme, a bird door knocker will look really good.

A door knocker is a little bit expensive than a door handle or knob. This ornament can be bought at a price of $37. Adding the $48 of paint with these two, your total is at $92… still under $100!

11. Plant a Tree

Front Yard

We are not talking about those small bushes that line the pathway but big trees that will frame the entryway. Plant two trees on either side of the main entrance and make sure there’s enough space for them to grow. This will create a symmetrical design, which will look quite pleasing to the eye when

12. Add Outdoor Furniture

Bistro Set

This is what you call a bistro set. Outdoor furniture such as this is usually for the patio or the garden. You can either place a single seat with two side tables or create a conversation area for two people.

The good news is — a setting such as this can be made without spending anything. All you need to do is drag some furniture from inside and place it on the patio.

If you are looking for a bistro set online, you will easily find one in just $99. Place some flower pots on the table or hanging a few from the patio ceiling.

13. Potted Plants

Plant Pots

One of the best things about potted plants is that there’s not much need for maintenance. When you have a garden, the area needs to be weeded often and the large area requires more soil.

With potted plants, less space is consumed and you have the opportunity to create an artistic display. This is one of the best ways to improve the curb appeal of your house.

Here’s what you need to do: instead of buying potted plants that will cost $65 a pair, why not buy plant pots. A pair of 6 plant pots can be bought in just $20. You can then paint them and make your own abstract design on them.

14. Replace Exterior Lighting

Exterior Lighting

A great way to showcase the beauty that is you house is to up your game on exterior lighting. Nothing fancy but simple hanging fixtures that light up the patio. You can get three fancy exterior lighting fixtures for $40 and four LED bulbs for $18.
