Outdoor bars and kitchens

Building a bar and a kitchen is an excellent choice if you have enough space in your backyard. It’s been one of the most popular outdoor design trends over the last couple of years.

Not only do they enhance your property value, but also provide a beautiful setting for entertaining visitors and throwing outdoor parties or dinners.

Also, it doesn’t have to be a significant investment. All you need is a custom-made bar, with a grill or kitchen appliances nearby, and a couple of bar stools, and you’re ready to go.

Backyard decks

Backyard decks are always a fan favorite when it comes to exterior design. They serve as a neat extension of your indoor living space to the outdoors.

A deck is a place where you’ll be inviting people over during the summer days, so why not take the opportunity and make it a statement piece of the whole backyard?

There are numerous options available, depending on your taste. You could opt for natural materials, such as wood or polished stone, which can be more expensive. On the other hand, you could try composite decks, which are cheaper and require a lot less maintenance in the long run.

Patios with pergolas

A great way to enjoy the sun but with a little bit of shade is to build a patio with a pergola. And it doesn’t have to stand right outside your house.

You could place it a little bit further away, to make the place more secluded and peaceful. Since pergolas are built to provide shade in the hot summer days, all you need then is to plants and flowers, which will provide enough protection from the sun.

If you want to protect yourself from the sunlight even more, you should consider installing electric curtains.  These not only limit your exposure to harmful UV rays, but are also extremely convenient to use.

Edible gardens

Over the last couple of years, a trend of growing veggies and herbs has become increasingly popular. The advantages of keeping a garden in your backyard can be multiple. It could be a place where you could try growing your organic food.

Simultaneously, gardening could be an enjoyable hobby you could take up with your family. However, most importantly, when it comes to exterior design, you’ll have a green oasis right outside your house. Don’t worry, you do not need to have acres of land! Even a couple of square feet can do wonders!

Fire Pits

There is no better way to make a focal point in the backyard than by having a fire pit built and installed. Not many things convey coziness better than enjoying a drink in good company, with a fire crackling right in front of you.

Undoubtedly, this will be the place where you and your loved ones will spend most of your time during hot summer nights. And the best part is they are rather inexpensive and can adapt to any space, so it doesn’t matter if you have a large or a small backyard.

Water fountains and ponds

Having a water fountain or maybe even a pond in your backyard is the best way to elicit the feeling of calm and serenity.

Adding these elements will make your garden the place where you could reflect and recuperate from a stressful day.

And with soothing and relaxing water sounds, it’s more likely you’ll stay there longer. Also, water features can provide a beautiful contrast to all the greenery you have laying around in your garden.

Thinking about the backyard as the extension of your home, and giving it the same attention as you give to interior design will definitely make it shine and pop in a whole different light. In return, you will create a place where everyone will want to hang out in the summer!
