Written By Glenn Prescot

Paint the benches in the summer, protect the tables and chairs in the winter, and pick up the leaves in autumn.

These chores are tedious, so be sure to include an upgrade here and there to break the monotony of your garden.

Actually, this outdoor space should constantly change in order not to become boring. There are numerous upgrades you can apply so we have compiled a list of 6 most effective ways you can spruce up your garden.

Table of Contents

  • Reuse Flowers Pots
  • Install lights
  • Build a Patio
  • Tend to the Pathways
  • Create an Outdoor Kitchen
  • Staying Warm

Reuse Flowers Pots

If your garden had been neglected, then you are bound to have flower pots just lying around or stored away in the shed.

Instead of tripping on them all the time, why not restore them their original purpose? Place some humus inside the pots and plant flowers that have the most colorful petals. This way, your garden will attain a new look and a pleasant smell, especially in the summer.

Install lights

In order to be able to use the garden at night time, you are going to need lights. These are usually mounted on the wall of the house.

Alternatively, you can erect lamppost around the corners of the yard, illuminating the entire garden. Not only will your property become safer, as strong lights will act as a deterrent against home invasion, but the flies and mosquitoes will be drawn to the far lighter and away from your house.

Finally, if you are feeling extravagant, placing lanterns in various colours is also a neat solution.

Build a Patio

By installing lights you ensure that the garden gets used during night time while building a patio guarantees that bad weather conditions will not ruin a garden sit out.

patio

Companies such as Interline Patio Builders specialize in patios so getting spare parts for the upkeep and repair will not be a problem. It might seem costly at first, but a patio soon pays off in all the quality time spent in it.

Tend to the Pathways

Needless to say, a garden gets treaded a lot, so besides maintaining the greenery of the lawn, don’t forget to tend to the pathways as well.

garden pathway

Gravel walkways get depleted easily, to be sure to refill the pebbles from time to time. If the ground is tilted and rainwater keeps washing the gravel away, you may want to introduce concrete pathways.

These are more durable, but the edges still tend to chip away. In order to prevent this, lay the borders of the path with brick that can be in diffident colours, such as orange or yellow.

Create an Outdoor Kitchen

If you have an electrical outlet and running water in your garden, turn it into an outdoor kitchen during the summer months. It would be ideal for preparing a lazy Sunday lunch and throwing parties for friends and family.

outdoor kitchen

Coupled with a minibar, your garden kitchen will soon become the hotspot of social life in the entire neighbourhood. Don’t forget to add a barbecue to the utilities in this provisional kitchen.

Staying Warm

Don’t let the cold outside stop you from enjoying your garden. Put blankets on chairs and sofas so you can stay in the garden after dark when the air becomes chilly.

garden firepit

If you have time, you can even build a fire pit to really stay warm or roast marshmallows. Stories heard around the hearth in your garden will be retold by your children in the years to come.

The best thing about all these upgrades is the fact that they require little money and labour to make them happen. What you need a lot is goodwill and love for your garden space.
