When buying a home, they say the bathroom and kitchen are two of the most important rooms, that’s because we spend most of the time in those.

So, when you are choosing a showerhead, it can be a tough choice as there are so many options available.

You want to find the perfect shower to suit you, some people like low pressure, some people like high pressure, the preference is entirely personal to each individual.

But one thing that everyone has in common is wanting to find the perfect showerhead to suit you.

We have put together a list of 11 different types of showerheads, to help you pick the best for your bathroom and preference.

Table of Contents

  • Fixed wall-mounted Showerheads
  • Hand-held Showerheads
  • Rain Showerheads
  • High-pressure Shower heads
  • Dual shower heads
  • Shower panel showers
  • Aerated showerheads
  • Lighted LED showerheads
  • Filtered showerheads
  • Low-flow showerheads
  • Ceiling mounted shower

Fixed wall-mounted Showerheads

Fixed showerheads are the most common when it comes to showers; they are the cheapest and easiest to get your hands on. Not only are they budget-friendly, but they are also the simplest to put together and easiest to maintain.

Fixed wall mounted shower heads may not be the most stylish, but you can find some really nice and trendy ones if you look hard enough.

Fixed shower heads are the most minimalist and plain-looking, making them perfect for any bathroom interior.

If you want a more luxe shower head, you can still rely on fixed shower heads if you buy a multi-functional one.

Multi-function fixed showerheads allow you to change the flow of the water as most come with 3 settings.

Fixed wall mounted shower heads are a great addition to any bathroom, with the simple style, the low price tag, and accessibility of them.

Hand-held Showerheads

hand held

Alongside the fixed wall-mounted showerheads, hand-held showerheads are the newer, more modern-looking popular option to go for.

Hand-held shower heads are all usually simple-looking; they are perfect for family bathrooms due to being able to remove the head from the wall mount, meaning you can use the showerhead while in the bath.

The flexibility of hand-held showerheads makes them great for showering kids or pets, as well as cleaning the bathtub.

Hand-held shower heads are budget-friendly, and easily found in homeware shops and online. You can adjust the flow of the water in some types; there are usually 3 flow settings on these showerheads.

Hand-held shower heads are very easy to clean and maintain, too; this is another reason why they are great for family bathrooms.

Rain Showerheads

Now, these showerheads may just be the most luxurious, glamorous, and stylish shower heads going. Rain shower heads are the latest and greatest, most hotels and spas now choose to have rain shower heads in their bathrooms.

Rainfall showerheads create a luxury feel for any bathroom, not to mention how relaxing they are to shower in. You almost feel like you are in an outside tropical shower somewhere in a Bali jungle.

As you can imagine, these shower heads aren’t the cheapest to get your hands on, although they are becoming more and more accessible due to the rise in their popularity.

If you have water pipes in the ceiling, you can mount the rain shower head into the ceiling. But if not, you can still install a rain shower head by using a wall-mounted extender to fit the rain shower head (as shown on the picture above).

This type works better in bigger bathrooms and is more suited to freestanding showers rather than over the bath ones.

If you are unsure if a rain shower head would be suitable for your bathroom, you should contact a plumber and ask for their expertise.

Rain shower heads are an exquisite addition to luxury, deluxe, and stylish bathrooms; if you have the budget and space, they make an excellent feature.

High-pressure Shower heads

high pressure

High-pressure shower heads are great for those who enjoy a hot, steamy, and almost massage-like shower.

They are perfect for active people, the high-pressure of the water acts as a relief to your muscles, getting you ready for a good night’s sleep, or help you feel energized prepared for the day.

High-pressure types can be rather costly to your water bill because they use more water per shower than your standard showerhead.

This type works to ensure that you are getting the most out of the water flow, you will really be able to tell the difference from a regular shower to a high-pressure one. Using a high-pressure showerhead will help make your shower feel relaxed and leave you feeling cleaner than ever.

One of the only downsides to a high-pressure shower is how fantastic it is when you have to shower somewhere else with a lower pressure you will be able to feel the difference, and you won’t want to shower anywhere else again.

Dual shower heads

dual type

Dual types are a combination of rain showerheads and hand-held showerheads as shown above. They are the perfect combo, so you can relax and enjoy a lovely tropical shower, and then use the hand-held shower to make sure all of the shampoo is out of your hair.

Dual shower heads are on the more pricey side of showers, but it is worth it if you know you will enjoy the two sources of water.

Dual shower heads are perfect for families, the hand-held heads are great for washing the children, and then you can have a treat with some alone time and enjoy the rainfall showerhead.

Shower panel showers

Shower panel showers are packed full of luxury features and details. Panel showers look super futuristic and modern; they are the perfect addition to minimal and contemporary bathrooms.

Shower panel showers have many features, such as temperature control, LED screens, lights, a hand-held shower, body spray jets, water filters from different angles, and has much more to offer than your standard shower.

Shower panels are quite pricey to purchase and to install, but they are totally worth it if you have the budget.

The hand-held feature means these showers are also practical, and not just an over-the-top, initiative, massage and light up shower.

Aerated showerheads

If your home is all about saving energy, then you need this water-saving showerhead. Aerating showerheads are nothing less than your average showerhead, but they save water and money at the same time.

Aerated showerheads provide an enjoyable shower experience while using no way near as much water as regular showerheads. The shower uses air mixed with the water to provide you with an excellent shower performance.

Basically, this shower uses less water when running as the shower uses air to give the water more pressure. Therefore less water is being used, saving energy and money on your water bill. But the aerating showerheads still gives you a decent flow of water during your shower.

Lighted LED showerheads

LED shower heads are the perfect choice for modern and simple bathrooms. The light-up shower head is a wonderful and fun addition to the bathroom and makes having a shower just a little more exciting.

Lighted LED shower heads can be super relaxing at the end of a long day; you can turn the main bathroom light off, step into the shower, and experience a tranquil, yet exciting shower time, getting you in the perfect mood to settle down in bed.

Filtered showerheads

Filtered shower heads are the perfect choice if you live in an area where the water supply contains chemicals such as chlorine and sulfur, you want to eliminate those nasties from your shower, and filtered shower heads are designed to do just that.

Unfortunately, filtered shower heads don’t come with multifunctions or fancy styles. You will also need to change the filter every few months.

Filtered shower heads may not be the trendiest, or more exciting, but they are necessary if you don’t have a good water supply in your hometown.

Low-flow showerheads

If you are after an affordable spa-like showerhead, then low-flow heads are the ones to go for. If the area you live in has low water pressure, then low-flow showerheads are also an excellent option as they are designed to make the most out of the low water pressure, and provide you with the best shower it can.

Low-flow showerheads are also a great option if you have children because kids can sometimes be frightened of the high pressure, or it can be if they are just small, so the low pressure of these shower heads are perfect for families.

These showerheads can be a little more pricey to install, but in the long run, they will save you a hefty amount off your water bill. Not only saving you money, but they also provide you with a spa-like, calming, and massing shower experience.

Ceiling mounted showerceiling mount

These showers are what the name suggests; showers mounted to your ceiling. Ceiling mounted showers are similar to the rain shower head; they give you a relaxing, luxury, and spectacular shower experience.

If you already have water pipes running in the ceiling, then these showers can be quite inexpensive to install. Ceiling mounted showers can give any bathroom a bespoke and elegant feel to them.
