This home truly is your biggest investment, and you have to prepare to take care of it by following the proper maintenance guidelines.

By doing regular maintenance on your home, you can keep your home in the best condition possible so that you can live in it for years to come.

1. Take Care of the HVAC System

Always make sure that you are taking the best care of your HVAC system when it comes to the maintenance that is required at your new home.

Not doing so, can require a new furnace, if you do have a furnace that provides the heat and the air conditioning at your home.

Make sure that you replace the air filters regularly depending on the manufacturer’s instructions that come on the air filters so that dirt does not get into the furnace.

Not doing so can lead to these expensive replacements as aforementioned due to a host of issues that may arise.

2. Check the Windows

The windows help to keep your home light and beautiful, but it is important to inspect them regularly to ensure they can do their jobs properly.

Though you get a view out of your windows, they are also meant to be insulated and to keep you warm. For this reason, ensure that there is ample caulking around your windows to aim in that insulation that is necessary.

Make sure that there is weather stripping as well so that no excessive cold air or hot air gets in and so that rain does not enter the windows.

3. Paint Some on the Interior and Exterior

If there are areas of your home in which the paint is chipping or coming off, make sure that you are covering them up with a new fresh coat of paint.

You can also help in making the house your own when you choose certain paint colors for certain rooms that really suit your personality and that really suit your design aesthetic.

Make sure to paint the exterior of your home as well if you have siding to ensure that it looks its best and to prevent the growth of mildew.

4. Check the Attic and Basement

After moving in, be sure to inspect both the attic and the basement of your home. Ensure that everything seems to be functioning as it should and that there are no leaks in either space that may come from the rain or from the plumbing system.

Ensure that there is no draft in the attic as well, as this may indicate that there is a hole somewhere in the roof or the wall. Finally, inspect for bugs or for mice and get rid of them as soon as possible so you do not have an infestation.

5. Watch the Water Heater

Speaking of leaks, sometimes these are caused by the piping in your home and the plumbing system. Make sure that you take care of your plumbing system and replace any pipes that may be leaking.

Make sure you flush your water heater as soon as you move into your new home as well, which should be done on a yearly basis.

This maintenance task will help to prevent and get rid of the build-up of dirt and sediment which may be occurring at the bottom of the water heater.

There are many home maintenance tasks that come with owning a new home which may seem overwhelming.

Though you may stress about them now, they can assist you to avoid more stress in the future with larger bills that come with the complete replacement of appliances.

Be sure to start performing these tasks as soon as you move in to find any potential problems now and to get repairs made.

You will not regret it so that you do not have more problems in the future that will cost you a lot of money after just buying a home.
