Step 1. Choose an Appropriate Design

Do you need planning permission to build a garage? Our answer is yes! Use the document proving your right to property to identify the boundaries. Property lines are marked on the special act called deed. You receive it when you purchase a house.

Go outdoors to find and mark these particular boundaries. If you do not have the deed, you may go to a zoning and planning department which should be located in your district. Here you can find all the layouts of your house and adjacent area.

Step 2. Choose a Proper Place

Consider the place for your garage. If you want your building to be affordable, you can store it near your house. Alternatively, you can place it further back. Considering the location, you can choose the size and height of your garage.

Step 3. Make a Plan

This is the most important stage of constructing the garage. Here you should determine how many rooms and floors your garage will feature.

Step 4. Build Foundation

It is essential to know how to build a garage foundation to create a steady construction. First of all, you should inform the utility service to identify underground structures in order not to damage them during the construction.

Then, you will need to use your plan to mark out the construction space. Next, it is necessary to level the building area and use the specialized equipment to dig out trenches. They will serve like footings. The next step is installing drains or heating elements underground. Finally, you will need to fill in the foundation by pouring concrete.

Step 5. Construct Walls

Regardless of the material you chose for the construction, building the walls is a vital part of the process. Mind that the walls should be flat for the indoor painting to look organic.

Step 6. Build a Door

To create a robust door, it is a must to fasten the panels on the frame using various nails and screws. To be almost there, you should attach the doors to the posts. Finally, you can decorate them. And don’t forget to screw up the handles.

Step 7. Put a Roof

This stage of how to build a garage roof is worth paying attention to. You will need almost one weekend to complete this process. The first step is to install the bottom rafters and top ridge to the frame of your construction. Attach the rafters either to the bottom or top elements. An essential step also is covering the beams with plywood. The final stage is sweeping the boards and applying the membrane.

Step 8. Construct Roof Supports

Proceed with learning how to build a lean-to off a garage. Choose the material, for example, lumber, rafter nailers, framing members, and screws.

Now it’s time to set the posts. You will need to arrange the area where you are going to construct the lean. Next, it is necessary to dig holes to build supporting posts. Use massive hummer to drive each post into a hole. Use concrete to grout them.

Determine the bench elevation on each post. Now you are on the halfway to the finish, and you need to attach the nailer to the notches. Set a horizontal beam along the roof length you are going to use on the outside of your lean.

The next step is constructing the roof supports and adding the roofing material (see step 7). Install any dividing walls if you need them.

Congratulations! Your garage is ready. Now it is time to finish the interior and exterior.
