1) First Impressions Matter

Most of the time, people are going to make a decision to buy your home as soon as they walk through the door. It’s for that reason that you want to make your welcome area as rememberable as possible.

To do this, just make sure you remove any weeds from outside the home, repaint the door, and if your home has address letters on it, update them. You also want to make sure it’s not crowded when they walk in, so remove any keys, coats, or shoes.

2) Add in Mulch

Mulch, while it can keep any of your outdoor plants healthy and beautiful, also adds a nice touch of curb appeal. Don’t go overboard you just need to apply about three inches of mulch, any more and it will prevent the roots from growing in the soil where they should.

You also don’t want to go too close to the base of the tree because that will make the roots decay and dead plants aren’t pretty to look at. Mulch can be in the form of shredded wood as shown above.

3) Get Rid of Any Weird Odors

When you live in your home, your nose gets used to strange odors, but guests and potential buyers will be able to smell them clearly. When you do need to eliminate odors, baking soda will be your best friend.

If you have pet smells in your carpet, sprinkle baking soda on them, leave it for a bit, and then vacuum it up. The results will surprise you. You can also put baking soda in your fridge and cabinets and it will absorb smells like a sponge.

4) Resurface your Cabinets

Replacing your cabinets can be a huge expense, one that is completely out of your price range. Instead of paying someone to do that, you can fix them up by resurfacing them for much less.

resurface kitchen cabinets

Take off all the doors and pull out all the drawers, wipe everything down, deglaze the surface with liquid sand and clean it once again, and then paint it the way you want. If you want to slap a design on it, you can buy kits.

5) Choose a New Color Scheme

One of the easiest home projects that you can do is just adding on a new coat of paint. If you’re planning on selling your home you’ll want to go with a neutral color.

The reason for this is that buyers want to be able to envision themselves in the home. Any crazy customization won’t allow them to do that. Also, if your living room is deep purple well, not everyone likes deep purple.

If you’re selling, you’ll want to paint them white, gray, or beige. Any of these are plain, yet tasteful enough to work.

6) Repair Your Baseboards

Baseboards tend to really wear out over the years. The good news is, it’s not a hard home project for you to tackle.

Just hit the nails until they are all the way down, and patch any holes up with wood filler and paint. You can also do any patchwork with caulk and repaint. If you’re at all handy with tools, you should be able to do this repair in the course of a few days.

7) Change the Knobs and Handles of Appliances or Doors

Sometimes instead of replacing perfectly good appliances all you have to do is put on new handles and knobs. You can usually take off knobs and put new ones on without ever needing to get out a tool.

Changing a door handle or knob is slightly different but only because there are actual screws involved. You have to unscrew the old one, place the new one, and then screw it into place. It’s not hard and it’s pretty straightforward.

8) Clean Out Those Closets

This can be the easiest thing to do because it doesn’t involve painting or taking anything apart, but can also take you the longest depending on how cluttered your closets are.

The truth is, when you have someone come in to look at the house, they’re going to look at how much storage space is available. Closets are the primary source of storage space.

What you can do if you’re moving is clean out all your closets and rent out a storage space to put any items you won’t be using until after the move. This will ensure they are neat and tidy for visitors.

You can only do so much on your own to sell your house. You can view here to find a good real estate agent to put in on the market once you’ve finished up this final cleaning process.

Home Projects to Up You Resale Value

You don’t have to spend a ton of money to renovate your home if you want to sell it. There are many home projects that you can do to up the value on your own. You’ll be amazed what new knobs, a paint job, and clean closets can do.
