3 Ways to Design a Functional Kitchen for a Single Working Woman

Written By Glenn Prescot

Samantha is a busy lawyer at a very high profile legal firm. Since morning till the midnight she remains busy with all her work, clients and their cases. Burying her nose in the files, she keeps roaming around her apartment while taking care of the daily household chores.

So, when she appointed me to design her kitchen interior, I had to take care of some main factors. On one hand, I had to make sure that the space remains extremely functional for her where she can easily get what she is looking for during work.

On the other hand, I also had to focus on the aesthetics of the kitchen as well so that it complements her style, choices, and personality.

Once I was done with planning and showed her what I was trying to visualize, she looked extremely pleased. So, when I am working for the kitchen, I am also sharing the details of how I am designing the perfect kitchen for any single working woman in this blog.

If you are another Samantha who barely gets time to spend a lot of effort for household works, then you will surely find inspiration here.

In my career of being an interior designer, whatever I have learned, I am digging out all those ideas and creating a contemporary kitchen in this apartment of Minneapolis where I am fusing functionality with style, elegance, and modern aesthetics. So, if you are aiming to do something similar and looking for some creative ideas, then take a look at the following points to learn more.

More Storage and Shelving

Every morning when Samantha gets up and brews her first cup of coffee, she hardly gets enough time to sit and ponder over her household.

Rather she keeps running around her kitchen, sorting her breakfast and her lunch while seeing the daily newspaper from her tab on the bar. So, it is necessary that she finds every necessary thing just within her reach immediately.

For that, she needs a lot of storage space in the kitchen. That is why my first job was to get some stunning kitchen cabinets. On one hand, they will provide her with enough functional space in the kitchen; and on the other, it will occupy the blank walls, thus contributing to the aesthetics of the kitchen.

If you are thinking of a similar kind of kitchen in your apartment, then bring in the sturdy and elegant cabinets that will offer you the right sync in the kitchen décor.

Solid Darker Hues

Samantha is a no-nonsense kind of woman. She hardly pays attention to something which is full of ornamentation. Rather, she prefers the colors which exude boldness and at the same time, have a traditional vibe.

Hence, I opted for a dark cherry for her kitchen. From the cabinets to shelves, the shade of cherry made her kitchen look extremely sophisticated while beautifully contrasting the neutral shade of off-white on the walls, thus contributing to the overall aesthetics of the kitchen.

Perfect Lights

In a modern kitchen like this, it is necessary to have enough lights. On one hand, lights will increase the functionality by making every corner of the kitchen illuminated.

On the other, it is necessary that you think of the glamour it will bring in with the effects of lights. So, we made sure that Samantha’s kitchen never feels dark and gloomy.

Hence, on one hand, the source of natural lights, the big window in the kitchen remained unblocked. On the other, we opted for a center light on the bar as well as tiny lights on the shelves too. These lights will immediately make her kitchen gorgeous even in the evening.

So, now if you are thinking you can design such a kitchen for yourself, then don’t waste your time anymore. Buy the discount cabinets, choose the right colors, pick the right lights, and you will be sorted for the next few years until you plan another renovation.
