What is a fragranite sink?

A fragranite sink is a granite composite sink of the highest quality. It comprises 80 percent granite or quartz sand and 20 percent hard acrylic resin.

Yet, the surface is flatter and smoother than standard granite composite. It’s also nonporous. Moreover, a fragranite sink is warm to the touch.

What are the pros of a fragranite sink?

Durable

A fragranite sink can withstand impact, scratches, and other signs of wear. Meanwhile, it’s unfazed by high temperatures up to 536° F (280° C).

Plus, fragranite can handle the sun’s UV rays, not fading the slightest. So, whatever your choice of sink color, its beauty will hold true.

Hygienic

Since fragranite is nonporous, it resists dirt, food particles, and germs. If you dry the sink after each use, you’ll prevent chalky limescale formation.

Creative Flexibility

Fragranite sinks come in single, single-and-a-half, and double basins. They also have a wide range of finishes and earth-tone hues. Among the exquisite colors are:

– champagne

– onyx

Thus, it’s easy to match a fixture to the rest of your kitchen décor.

What are the cons of a fragranite sink?

Not Damage-Proof

If you drop a pot or pan in a fragranite sink, it can chip. Still, if you’re careful when handling kitchenware, a fragranite sink can look pristine for decades.

Heavy

Fragranite sinks are hefty, especially those with double bowls, weighing 42 lbs (19 kg) on average. So, for self-installation, enlist a muscular helper. Also, due to fragranite’s weight, you may need to add structural support beneath your sink.

Expensive

Fragranite costs more than other types of sink material, such as stainless steel and standard granite composite.

How do you clean a fragranite sink?

Avoid using abrasive cleaning products. Instead, apply dishwashing liquid with a sponge or nylon brush using circular motions. Then, rinse the sink thoroughly with warm water. To prevent limescale, dry the surface with a soft cloth.

Do fragranite sinks stain?

Fragranite naturally repels stains. Still, hard water can leave gray mineral deposits. Then, the minerals absorb certain foods that leave stains, such as coffee and tea. Use a descaling product to remove deposits created by hard water.

If a sink has light stains, fill it with warm water and liquid dish soap, letting the spots soak for an hour. Then, rinse the sink well with warm water, drying it with a soft cloth.

For deep-set stains, fill the sink with one part vinegar and three parts water, leaving it for five hours. After rinsing the sink well, use a sponge to remove any residue. Then, wipe the surfaces with a dry cloth.

Meanwhile, avoid leaving acidic foods in the sink, like salad dressing and fruit juice. They can erode fragranite.

Can you use bleach on a fragranite sink?

If you have a light-colored sink, you can lift stains with a 2.5 percent solution of bleach and water. This dilution rate is one part bleach to 40 parts water.

So, fill your sink half-full with warm water, adding 4/5 of an ounce of bleach. Then, let the solution sit overnight. The next day, rinse and dry the sink completely.

Note: Using bleach regularly will damage a fragranite sink permanently. So reserve this stain removal method for rare occasions.

Where are Franke fragranite sinks made?

Such sinks are produced in Switzerland by Franke, the largest kitchen sink manufacturer worldwide. Franke has been designing kitchen systems for over a century, since 1911.

The brand name “Fragranite” combines the maker’s name “Franke” with the word “granite.” The company coats the sink with a proprietary disinfectant containing silver ions. This treatment thwarts germ growth by 99 percent.

Franke also manufactures sinks in stainless steel, ceramic, and Tectonite, an innovative synthetic composite material.

How much do fragranite sinks cost?

Expect to pay from $273 to $599 for a drop-in, single-bowl fragranite sink. For a double basin model, average prices range from $454 to $756. Costs tend to be less at Amazon, Lowe’s, Wayfair, and Build.com.

Lifetime of Stellar Service

A fragranite sink is made of the highest quality granite composite. Whereas standard granite composite has a matte finish, fragranite shines. This material is also smoother than its cousin and pleasingly warm.

Regarding performance, fragranite sinks are sanitary, treated with a coating that resists germs. They’re also highly durable, withstanding scratches, dings, and searing heat. Still, avoid dropping kitchenware in a fragranite sink. Otherwise, the material can chip.

Since fragranite can tolerate UV light, it won’t fade with time. So, your sink will maintain its rich color indefinitely.

Moreover, fragranite repels light stains. You can remove deep-set splotches by soaking your sink in a 1:3 mixture of water and vinegar. Also, to prevent limescale buildup, dry your sink after each use.

Fragranite has only two drawbacks – its heaviness and price.

Still, a fragranite sink will give you decades of excellent service. Thus, it’s well worth what you pay!
