Less Is Best

Psychologists say that cluttered homes may cause frustration and depression. Give your home a natural sense of space by eliminating as much of your clutter.

Find smart ways to organize your family’s things and get rid of stuff you don’t need. It doesn’t have to be a sterile museum.

A clutter-free home is more inviting and less stressing. Spending the time to think through what objects you really value and make you happy, while donating or selling the ones which don’t, help make your home into a place that inspires joy.

Bring Earth Tones to Your Color Scheme

Have you ever noticed how specific colors bring you instant calm and relaxation? The chances are that these are hues prevalent in nature.

Think of subtle shades of brown, vibrant greens, warm oranges, golden yellows, and cool blues. Choose some of these earth tones for your walls, fabric, and furniture.

Wooden furniture, like a wicker chair, can also provide some of these tones. Use a couple of bold accent colors to catch the eye. Don’t be too afraid to go into brighter shades. When you use the colors of nature, they bring peaceful reflection.

Decorate with Plants and Natural Decor

Trees, shrubs, and flowers not only give us life-sustaining oxygen and food, but they nourish our souls with natural beauty. Bring calming green into every room of your home with some house plants.

Most are easy to care for and pair well with rustic or elegant styles. Even a vase of fresh flowers on your table brings a welcoming cheer to all who enter.

When you are searching for accents, consider objects from the great outdoors. Leaves, branches, and small, exciting rocks add texture and interest to your design.

Obviously you have to take care of plants, but having a routine to water them can be a comforting and inspiring ritual.

They can help give the feeling that your home is something you have to care for, and that also cares for you, rather than merely a place where you live.

Let There Be Light

One of the most overlooked accents in many homes is the lighting. The creative use of light and shadows can change the look of a room with the flick of a switch.

Do you want your house to glow with peace and vitality? How you choose your lighting can make a difference. Arrange your light in three layers: ambient, task, and accent.

The first layer is ambient, which can be a large light fixture or natural light from your windows. The task style is carefully placed lamps that are handy for reading and other household tasks. For the relaxing glow of accent lights, burn scented candles or install recessed sconces.

To bring natural vibes to your abode, surround yourself with beautiful things and objects that you truly love. By removing objects that don’t inspire you, by bring earthly tones and natural décor into your home, and by creatively using light, you can make your home into a warm and joyful place.

Let your home decor reflect who you are. When you use nature as a guide, you will always find the way to feel at peace.
