Having a garden is a blessing on its own. It’s a place where you can hide from the outside world, away from the noise, stress and worry.
So, if you already have a chance to create a garden according to your personal style, why not make an effort and let it be a true fairytale of your own design?
It can be your personal oasis of relaxation and enjoyment, you just need to follow these simple steps.
What is a fairytale garden?
This type of garden doesn’t have to be big at all. Its secret is in the details that make it so magical and special – a little pond, a bird feeder, thick foliage, dimmed lights, little angel sculptures…
It is supposed to transport you into another world, where only beauty exists and where there is no place for worry or anger. So, the trick is to focus on the little things inside the garden and you’ll see it is slowly turning into your personal fairytale.
1. Flowering vines
Nothing transports you into the fairy world like vines around you and above your head, blooming in beautiful colors. Flowering vines are best for creating arches on the structures in the garden or at the entrance of the garden – you will instantly feel you have stepped into another world.
In case you have a gazebo or an arch, decorate it with Sweet Asylum or Million Bells – they are easy and quick to grow, and afterward, you can decorate them with wire or twine.
2. Romantic objects
The decorative objects you choose to place inside the garden will add to the romantic touch. Whatever object you choose, you can plant flowers over it, letting it get covered with blooms, but not too much so that you can see what object it actually is.
For example, you can find an old piano or a cello, place it in a visible place and let the flowers take it over. Just make sure you leave certain parts of them uncovered.
An old typewriter or a retro chair is what also look great when covered in succulent or small-sized flowers. If you feel adventurous, you can have bigger objects placed and decorated with plants, like a big old bench or even a bed – it will create the dreamy atmosphere that you’re aiming at.
3. Dreamy paths
When you’re inside your garden, you want to wander it freely, getting to know every little plant and detail in it. And the best way to do it is to create paths around it that lead to different things and allow you to see the plants up close.
Still, knowing where to make pathways isn’t a s simple as it seems because you need to have in mind the overall design of the garden.
Landscape experts in companies like Sphere Constructions warn that before you start making pathways, you need to have a clear plan of what plants you will grow at specific spots and where you will put decorative objects.
If you don’t do it before making the paths, you’ll soon find out that some things you have imagined can’t be realized.
4. Use the tree to create magic
Of course, if you have a tree in the garden that’s big enough to make a tree house, you should definitely go for it. The style of the tree can be whatever you want it to be – it can be reminiscent of a castle or it can be a Peter Pan type of a tree house. Or it can be a simple wooden house that blends into the surroundings.
On the other hand, if the tree is too small for a tree house, it can still be a magical spot. Its roots and trunks can inspire creativity, especially if there are holes or gaps in the base of the trunk.
You can make a little path leading to the gap and then place a little door into it – it instantly ignites the imagination of the viewer, making them think about the little magical creatures and animals living inside the tree, which is the point, isn’t it?
5. Set the stage
Of course, a fairy tale garden involves figurines of fairies around the garden, but why not raise it to another level? You can choose a spot in the garden where you will place a little fairy home – let your imagination go wild: find or make garden accessories like gazing balls, garden gnomes and a little house with a table and chairs outside – a true home for fairies. You can make the furniture out of branches or use clay to make a miniature birdbath.
Final comment
Your garden should be your personal fairytale. Everybody has their own image of a perfect fairytale garden and it’s important you follow you dream when creating it. Only then will you completely enjoy your moments in your magical garden.
