For years, we have used plants to give that much needed touch of freshness to our houses to make them a lively and more positive place to spend peaceful days in.

However, simple indoor plants are not eye-catching enough to truly make your home decor stand out. For this, one of the most distinctive art that can embellish your home in the best way is Bonsai, ancient Chinese art.

What is Bonsai?

Over 1000 years old, this art is about creating dwarf or miniature trees which are grown according to an ancient method. It involves wiring the growing branches of the tree to channel its growth and direction and pruning its roots to control the size of the tree.

Bonsai discipline can be applied to hundreds of kinds of trees. Only that it is an art of patience, experience and skills.

The good thing is that even with its exotic nature, today, Bonsai trees are available around the world adorning the homes of several people as gorgeous centrepieces, corner plants and even dining table decorations.

Out of all the amazing pieces of furniture that you have, a bonsai tree will look its best as a centrepiece on the dining table. The pot of the tree can be matched or contrasted with the dining table itself and other Asian art pieces can be kept around to create a traditional and calm ambience.

How to take care of your Bonsai tree?

Although these exquisite plants are miniature versions of fully grown trees, it requires a lot of time and patience to take care of them. With proper care, your precious bonsai can live a long beautiful life. So let’s see, how can you look after them in the correct way.

The right placement

Your bonsai needs to be placed outside to get the sun as much as possible (but not in extremely cold temperatures, i.e. below 40 deg). The morning sun works the best for these trees, just set its placement towards the sun and leave it out for at least 4 to 6 hours during spring, summer and fall.

Watering habits

Watering of all the plant is crucial for its survival. So under no circumstances should you neglect it for your beautiful bonsai. In fact, the one watering rule to follow with these trees is to never allow the soil to completely dry out. Any time you see that the soil is dry, sprinkle some water.

If your Bonsai is being kept in the sun enough, it will mandatorily need watering once every day. However, the watering frequency also depends upon the size of the pot, the type of soil and the type of tree.

You can even use a moisture meter to determine which of the trees need water at what times. This will help you in creating a daily watering schedule. Also, note that bonsai trees should be watered until water starts running out the bottom holes.

Fertilizing

Another important factor to look after is the fertilizing needs of the tree. For your bonsai to remain healthy and gorgeous for a long time, remember to periodically replenish the soil with fertilizers.

All kinds of general-purpose liquid fertilizers work well with them. The only thing to remember is that lower strength fertilizer should be used to maintain a bonsai.

Trimming

The growth of a bonsai tree is manipulated and controlled by the method of trimming. Watching a few videos on the internet will help you enough to learn how to trim new growth back safely. This will guide you in keeping your tree well-maintained and healthy.

Keep learning about the trimming needs of different kinds of Bonsai trees. For example, tropical bonsais require regular trimming throughout the year.

Last Words

Committing to the bonsai art is going to be a fulfilling experience, for you and your home. The different trees, their colours, shapes, trunks and textures, everything will revive your home with a new life. So what are you waiting for? Bring the elegance of bonsai art to your home and enjoy the beauty for years.
