Moving into a new home is not an easy task as people portray it to be. If your new home is a place which needs to be built up from scratch, then definitely there will be a long list of items to purchase so that you can adjust to your house easily.
Instead of letting that long list roll all over your floor, how about you shorten it instead so that you can do everything one at a time.
Sometimes it takes people months to fit into their new places since they do not have their priorities set.
They make frequent trips to the market only to never have all the right things at the right time it gets difficult especially if your little kids running around at all times. This, however, is a concise list of must-have items in a new household.
Why is it important to set priorities?
It is not as if you will never get your house organized if you don’t set priorities but then trying to wing is never a good option as it is very time-consuming. This is why a short list of items to get after buying a new house has been prepared so that you can take one step and time without as mishaps.
Bed and Bedding
You would not want to move into a new and spend your first night there sleeping on the floor now would you?
Since people think moving in first then getting the furniture is easier, they tend to delay buying beds and mattress and resort to sleeping on the floor for a while. This is wrong since this disturbs sleeping habits and can lead to sore backs.
Hence it is best to purchase all the beds and beddings first. It is recommended to purchase polished wood elegant beds as they are stronger and less noisy also they last longer. Buy a few blankets and bed sheets along with comfortable mattresses and pillows. Adjusting into a new home can be especially challenging for people with picky sleeping habits.
Make sure to keep extras blankets with you since settling to the temperature control of new living space. Buy cushions if you need more than one pillow to sleep.
First Aid Kit
A lot of changes need to be made in the house after you have moved in and the work can be difficult enough to even cause a lot of minor injuries. All the heavy lifting and dust cleaning can bring joint pains, allergies and other problems which are why it is must to keep a first aid kit at hand when moving into a new house.
Owning a first aid kit is the first step; the second is to make sure that all the supplies are well stocked in it. Keep regular medicines such as painkillers, for allergies and cough and flu syrup at hand. Keep small Band-Aids and medical gauze in the box as well along with disinfectants. Since it stocked with some dangerous items, keep it out of children’s reach.
Getting used to the bathroom of a new home is a problem of a lot of people. Firstly you should start by making sure that the supply of warm and cold water is sufficient.
Taps and showers should also be replaced if they seem old or leaky. Install an extendable showerhead for tall people in your bathroom as well. Make sure there is a medicine cabinet in the washroom in case of any emergencies. Check the flush as well; if it is not functioning properly then get it repaired.
Next purchase all you must use supplies such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and brush. Buy shower curtains and mats to prevent the bathroom from being wet so that you do not slip.
If you ought to keep your house neat and clean, you’ll need the right supplies to clean your house. This list contains some things that you can easily find in the nearest supermarket.
Buy glass cleaners, surface cleaners, mops, brooms, dustpans and whatever else you need to clean your house. Stack up on cleaning rags as they should be changed frequently. Buy clothes and dishwashing supplies and load up your cabinet with them as well.
Cleaning supplies should also include trash cans and trash bags. Fixing up your new home can be quite messy at times which is why frequent cleaning is mandatory.
Make sure every room has its dustbins, and the ones in the kitchen should be separated into burnable, recyclable and organic waste bins. Never overload your bins and regularly remember to wash them as well. Throw away your trash every day without fail.
Need to hammer a nail in the wall or drill a hole. Common statements for people organizing their homes thus they go and lend their neighbors tools. It’s not a crime to borrow someone else’s tools, but then it is best to have your own tools. Your toolbox must have screwdrivers with all sizes of positive and negative ends, wrench, hammer, wire cutter amongst other things.
Now, these items are very dangerous which is why it is best to use them carefully and keep them away from the little ones. Remember to always lock the box after use. You can even put all your car fixing tools in the toolbox.
It is a common phenomenon to see people eat takeout for weeks after moving to a new place and their excuse is that they have not yet prepared their kitchen. This is the reason as to why purchasing basic kitchenware such as cups, plates, cutlery, pots, and pans should be a top priority when moving to a new house.
Remember to buy stainless steel pots and pans while the glasses and dishes should be of either glass or ceramic as they are more environment-friendly material compared to plastic. However, if you are buying plastic such as for children, remember to replace your plates as often as possible.
